Whether you want to create a booklet for an event or print out an ambitious book project, consider using the pre-built page settings for booklets that comes with Word. The Book Fold layout sets you up for printing your masterpiece automatically in the correct order, ready for folding and binding. For best results, change the document layout before you start your writing project. Go to Layout and select the Page Setup dialog launch icon at the bottom-right corner. On the Margins tab, change the setting for Multiple pages to Book fold. The orientation automatically changes to Landscape.

Don't try to do this with columns. Instead, use the "2 pages per sheet" option under "Multiple pages" on the Margins tab of Page Setup. Better still, use "Book fold," which will create the pages in the correct order for a folded booklet.
Authors submit manuscripts in a hodgepodge of formats. APA formatting for academic manuscripts is a different animal. Manuscripts should be set up 8. Font throughout should be Times New Roman, 12 pt. There are other acceptable fonts, but Times New Roman is a standard in book publishing for its legibility and classic look.
